The Great Fall Maven spirit generally appears in August through November, bringing magic to the fall season. After fall has passed, another spirit comes to power, known by most as the Holiday spirit, though its name varies depending on where your from. (You may have also heard of it as the Winter spirt or Christmas spirit.)
The Holiday spirit manifests during December, and fills us with joy and excitement for the winter festivities. Sound familiar? At heart, the Holiday spirit bears a lot of similarities to Fall Maven.
It has been long established that Fall Maven and the Holiday spirit are siblings, having grown up together.
Experts disagree on why Fall Maven rules the fall season, while the Holiday spirit reigns in December.
One common idea is that Fall Maven and the Holiday spirit are interlocked in a neverending war. The Fall Maven is the first of the siblings to appear, and comes to power during the fall months. It is thought that as the days get colder, the Holiday spirit uses the frigid weather to its advantage, claiming back power when Fall Maven is at its weakest.
In the lore, the Holiday spirit has often been demonized as a bloodthirsty being, greedy and hungry for power.
One Fall Maven expert even went so far as to claim that the Holiday spirit had hidden its sibling inside his Thanksgiving turkey to be consumed. By the time he realized the treachery the Holiday spirit had evoked, it was too late, as he had already consumed what was left of the Fall Maven spirit. Brutal. (Of course, he claims, in being eaten, the Fall Maven had not been murdered, but rather weakened to the point that it could no longer function quite well. Fall Maven was able to return the following year, happy and cheerful as ever.)
This makes for a great story, and could very well be true, though it seems odd that two spirits both so kind and joyful could ever be quite so cruel to one another. It has been proven that Fall Maven and the Holiday spirit have fought from time to time, as shown through some of the most famous legends featuring their battles. (See: The Battle of the Winds.)
Other experts argue that it is much more likely that Fall Maven and the Holiday spirit have simply come to a compromise on when each one would be allowed to spread magic and joy. It is thought that because Fall Maven enjoyed fall the best, and the Holiday spirit winter, they came to agree that Fall Maven would appear in the fall, and the Holiday spirit in the winter.
On rare occasions, some have claimed to have felt both Fall Maven and the Holiday spirit at the same time. Reports of this rare occurrence happen most often during the tail end of November, which is in the middle of fall and winter.
These rare but special happenings show that just like all siblings, Fall Maven and the Holiday spirit fight, but would still do anything for one another, bound together by a love unlike any other.
